About this position

Imperial College London is recruiting a Research Associate in Computational Biomolecular Physics within the Department of Physics at the South Kensington Campus in the United Kingdom. This is a full-time, fixed-term post in a multidisciplinary programme on computational proteomics, de novo peptide sequencing, and two-dimensional partial covariance mass spectrometry.

The successful candidate will develop advanced computational algorithms to reconstruct peptide sequences directly from experimental mass spectral data, without relying on protein sequence databases. The role combines computational and experimental work, including mass spectral data acquisition in an analytical mass spectrometry laboratory and collaboration with Imperial researchers and US project partners.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Physics or a closely related quantitative discipline and have an outstanding research record. Strong skills in algorithm development, data analysis, scientific software, machine learning, signal processing, inverse problems, optimization, or applied mathematics are especially valued. Prior experience in proteomics or mass spectrometry is not required.

The position offers a competitive salary, sector-leading leave and pension benefits, and the opportunity to contribute to a pioneering international research programme with broad scientific and technological impact. The post is available immediately, with a flexible start date.

To apply, use the Imperial application portal linked in the advert. For further details, contact Professor Vitali Averbukh at [email protected]. The posting end date is 31 Oct 2026.
