About this position

Research Associate in Health Data at Imperial College London (Faculty of Medicine, National Heart & Lung Institute).

This is a part-time, fixed-term research staff position focused on health data, computer science, artificial intelligence, clinical data, wearable data, molecular/omics data, and cloud computing. The successful candidate will help develop and maintain Google Cloud Platform pipelines for smartphone, wearable, molecular, clinical, and environmental datasets to support early detection and monitoring of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

You will work with an international interdisciplinary team funded by the British Heart Foundation Programme Grant My Heart Counts, collaborating with computational scientists, clinicians, biologists, and partners including Stanford, Cambridge, Sheffield, Google, Apple, NHS, and HDRUK/BHF Data Science Centre.

Key responsibilities include building and supporting data pipelines, managing cloud resources, ensuring data integrity, assisting with data queries and troubleshooting, performing descriptive and quantitative analyses, maintaining records, supporting reports and publications, presenting at meetings and conferences, and contributing to grant bids.

Eligibility highlights: PhD or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a closely related field (statistics, physics, biomedical engineering). Strong experience with Google Cloud Platform (Firebase, BigQuery), Python, SQL, research methods, statistical procedures, large-scale real-world time-series data, and clinical or biological datasets is expected. Strong communication, independence, initiative, and advanced cloud/computing skills are also required. Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD may be appointed as a Research Assistant.

Funding and terms: This is a paid, fixed-term role for 2 years in the first instance, with possible extension depending on project progress and funding availability. Full-time salary is £50,733-£59,484 per annum, pro-rated for 21 hours/week; alternative Research Assistant salary applies for candidates without an awarded PhD.
