About this position
The University of Michigan’s Marsal Family School of Education is recruiting a Research Associate for the Understanding Michigan’s Literacy Policy research project.
This is a hybrid research position based at the Ann Arbor Campus in the United States, with travel to participating schools and districts throughout Michigan for in-person data collection.
The project is a large-scale mixed-methods study of Michigan’s literacy and dyslexia legislation. It examines how districts, schools, literacy coaches, and K–5 teachers interpret and implement state literacy policy, with a focus on evidence-based literacy instruction and student outcomes.
The Research Associate will support survey development and administration, interview and observation protocols, data collection, quantitative and qualitative data management and analysis, and dissemination of findings. The role also includes substantial project management: coordinating across institutions and school districts, managing timelines and deliverables, supporting participant recruitment, and supervising graduate research assistants.
Required background: PhD in education, educational psychology, or a closely related field with a focus on language and literacy education; strong knowledge of literacy education and evidence-based literacy instruction; at least 2 years of postdoctoral research experience; at least 2 years managing interdisciplinary teams; experience with Qualtrics; and experience with R, Stata, or SPSS for quantitative and/or qualitative analysis.
Preferred experience: work with school districts, schools, educators, or state education agencies; coordination of research activities with graduate assistants or multidisciplinary teams; and knowledge of educational policy implementation or educational improvement.
Funding and terms: grant-funded, full-time salary range $70,000–$85,000, with 75%–100% effort possible. The appointment is a two-year term ending 2028-09-30.
How to apply: upload a resume and cover letter as one document. The application packet should include an updated CV and a cover letter tailored to the role.
