About this position

Research Fellow (A) – Phosphorus and Potassium Fertilisers at Adelaide University, based in the School of Agriculture, Food and Wine at the Waite Campus in Australia.

This full-time fixed-term research role runs until February 2031 and sits within a collaborative, multi-party funded project with the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), The Mosaic Company (USA), and Omnia Specialties Australia. The work focuses on fertiliser chemistry, especially the development of more efficient phosphorus and potassium fertilisers for sustainable agriculture.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team led by Roslyn Baird, Director of the Fertiliser Technology Research Centre (FTRC). Research activities include formulating fertilisers, investigating release kinetics in different soils, studying crop uptake, and examining storage and handling behaviour. The role involves laboratory and glasshouse experimentation, advanced technical methods, data analysis and interpretation, and presenting findings to industry partners and the broader agricultural sector.

Eligibility highlights: a PhD in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or soil chemistry (or equivalent); research experience relevant to phosphorus or potassium fertilisers and/or soil-related compounds; experience with experimental design, statistics, laboratory equipment, collaboration, communication, and supervision. Desired experience includes nanotechnologies, mechanochemical synthesis, and fertiliser behaviour in soils.

Funding: salaried research position at Level A with AUD 103,962–111,384 per annum plus 17% superannuation. This is not a scholarship or studentship.

Application deadline: 11:30pm Thursday 12 November 2026.
