About this position

The University of Warwick’s Centre for Fusion, Space and Astrophysics (CFSA) is recruiting a Research Fellow in space physics, plasma physics, numerical modelling, and scientific computing. The project focuses on modelling Earth’s magnetosphere and radiation belts, including magnetospheric, ring current, and radiation belt simulations during geomagnetic activity.

This is a fixed-term, full-time post within a five-year STFC/UKRI-funded multi-institution collaboration involving the University of Warwick, Northumbria University, and the University of Birmingham. The role sits in the Department of Physics and offers the chance to work at the interface of space plasma physics, computational modelling, and space-weather science in a collaborative research environment.

Applicants should have experience in one or more of the following: space physics, plasma physics, numerical modelling, or scientific computing. Experience applying these methods to magnetospheric or radiation-belt research, or closely related areas, is especially valuable. Candidates who are near PhD submission or awaiting formal PhD conferral may initially be appointed at Research Assistant level until the PhD is awarded.

The post includes opportunities to contribute to mentoring and supervision of PhD students, research grant development, and collaboration with academic and external partners. Salary is £36,320–£46,970 per annum, with a lower Research Assistant rate of £35,302 per annum for candidates awaiting PhD award.

Location: Coventry, United Kingdom. Closing date: 19 November 2026, 11:59pm (UK).

To apply, submit the online application with a CV and cover letter. The cover letter should explain your motivation and how you meet the essential and desirable criteria. Informal queries may be sent to Dr Ravindra Desai at [email protected].
