About this position
University of Melbourne is advertising a Research Fellow in Stochastic Multiscale Modelling in Biology at the School of Mathematics and Statistics, Faculty of Science, Parkville. This is an ARC-funded, full-time fixed-term role for 2 years focused on developing cutting-edge stochastic multiscale models for biology and ecology, with strong mentoring and collaboration across three universities.
The project sits at the intersection of mathematical modelling, stochastic processes, Bayesian inference, and multiscale modelling. The successful candidate will develop and analyse models for interacting biological populations, contribute to publications and presentations, support research proposals and reporting, and help supervise and mentor students.
Applicants should hold or be near completing a PhD in applied mathematics, applied probability, theoretical physics, or a related field. Experience in modelling, stochastic processes, Bayesian statistical inference, and multiscale modelling is expected. Strong communication, teamwork, and project coordination skills are also highlighted. Current valid work rights for Australia are required; visa sponsorship is not available.
Salary is Level A: AUD $87,266–$118,416 p.a. plus 17% superannuation, with additional staff benefits including salary packaging, wellbeing support, flexible work arrangements, and professional development opportunities.
