Call for Expressions of Interest: MODULINK Research Opportunity
ISISE (Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering) is inviting expressions of interest from motivated researchers with an MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field for the MODULINK project: Advanced Inter-Module Connections for High-Performance and Reconfigurable Steel Modular Buildings.
The project focuses on the development of adjustable and reversible inter-module connections for steel modular construction, with the aim of improving structural performance while supporting manufacturing, assembly, tolerance accommodation, future disassembly, and reuse.
Research topics include steel inter-module connection design and optimisation, experimental testing and mechanical characterisation, detailed numerical/finite element modelling and calibration, simplified connection models for global structural analysis, diaphragm behaviour and global response of modular buildings, floor vibration serviceability, structural dynamics, and practical recommendations for design, manufacturing, assembly, and disassembly.
Applicants with a strong interest in steel structures, computational mechanics, finite element modelling, and/or experimental structural engineering are especially encouraged. Prior experience in all areas is not required. The opportunity may be particularly suitable for someone interested in developing the work toward a PhD.
Interested candidates should submit their expression of interest via the linked form before September 25, 2026.
