About this position

High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) is jointly recruiting a small number of fixed-term researchers for the International Joint Research Acceleration Fund / International Leading Research project “Next-Generation Development of Energy Frontiers and International Human Resource Development for a Unified Understanding of Forces” (FY2024–2030).

This opportunity is aimed at young experimental researchers who will contribute to particle physics, ATLAS/LHC experiments, next-generation collider experiments, and accelerator/detector technology development. Research themes include detector operation and physical analysis, next-generation collider studies, monolithic pixel sensor development, AI-based trigger processing using advanced FPGAs, and superconducting magnet technology for future colliders.

The position is based at KEK Tsukuba Campus, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, with collaboration across KEK, Osaka University, the University of Tokyo, Nagoya University, and Waseda University. Medium- to long-term overseas research stays are strongly encouraged, and support is available for travel expenses and research funds needed for such plans.

This is a fixed-term researcher/postdoc-equivalent appointment. The salary is approximately 4–5 million yen per year (about 400,000 yen/month, depending on qualifications and experience). The post also includes discretionary research funds of about 1.5 million yen per year, commuting allowance, and possible housing allowance if requirements are met.

Eligibility: applicants must already hold a doctoral degree or be expected to obtain one by the appointment date. Applicants should be prepared to work closely with university staff and international project members. The call especially welcomes researchers whose plans align with the project’s goals and who are interested in internationally leading future energy-frontier experiments.

Deadline: November 30, 2026 (must arrive by this date). Applicants should contact the listed email address at least one week before the deadline to receive the submission instructions. Required documents include a CV, publication list, research history, research plan after appointment, availability date, preferred institution(s), and at least two recommendation letters.
