About this position

SWBio DTP is advertising fully funded PhD studentships in biosciences for a September 2026 start. The programme is a 4-year doctoral training partnership with a structured first year of taught training and rotation projects, followed by PhD research, cohort activities, and placements in Years 2–4.

The post highlights several research projects across the University of Bristol and University of Exeter, including engineering biology, protein design, polyketide synthase enzyme redesign, targeted protein degradation, transcription factor and peptide regulator discovery, magnetic field sensitivity in biological systems, and multi-omics for polymicrobial interactions and AI-assisted rapid diagnostics.

Eligibility includes a First or Upper Second Class UK Honours degree, or equivalent. A Lower Second may be considered if you also have a Masters degree or relevant experience. The post specifically asks for quantitative experience such as statistics, bioinformatics, maths, physics, data analysis, or computation. Engineering Biology-focused studentships are available for Home students only.

Applications must be submitted through the SWBio DTP centralised application system at swbio.ac.uk. The post instructs applicants to register with email, avoid the Single Sign-On option, and tick the box to receive notification emails.
