About this position

Teaching opportunity in Mediterranean Studies for the Master's programme Mediterranean Worlds in Motion (M2) at Université Paris 8 Vincennes - Saint-Denis, Paris, France.

The post is looking for a colleague to teach a new course titled Mediterranean Studies during the Fall semester 2026–2027. The course is 30 hours (10 × 3-hour sessions), taught in English, and delivered in person in the Paris area. The theme is open, so the instructor can design the course around their own expertise on the Mediterranean. The course may be taught entirely by the selected colleague or co-taught with the announcer.

Preferred academic backgrounds include sociology, political science, anthropology, geography, history, environmental studies, migration, urban studies, and cultural studies, with comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives especially welcome. The programme is described as an interdisciplinary social science degree focused on the contemporary political, social, cultural, and environmental transformations of Mediterranean societies, with a strong international outlook.

Eligibility is governed by French regulations for chargé·e d'enseignement vacataire appointments. Applicants must be able to teach in English and must have a primary professional activity outside this teaching role (for example, university or public-sector employment, private-sector work, research, consulting, or self-employment), or belong to another eligible category such as retired academics or certain doctoral candidates. Unemployed applicants are generally not eligible. The appointment requires approval by the Human Resources Department of Université Paris 8 before teaching starts.

To apply, send a brief proposal of the course theme and a CV by email to [email protected]. The post does not mention a formal application portal or deadline.
