The post is looking for a colleague to teach a new course titled
Mediterranean Studies
during the
Fall semester 2026–2027
. The course is
30 hours
(10 × 3-hour sessions), taught
in English
, and delivered
in person
in the Paris area. The theme is open, so the instructor can design the course around their own expertise on the Mediterranean. The course may be taught entirely by the selected colleague or co-taught with the announcer.
Preferred academic backgrounds include
sociology

cultural studies
, with comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives especially welcome. The programme is described as an interdisciplinary social science degree focused on the contemporary political, social, cultural, and environmental transformations of Mediterranean societies, with a strong international outlook.
Eligibility is governed by French regulations for
chargé·e d'enseignement vacataire
appointments. Applicants must be able to teach in English and must have a primary professional activity outside this teaching role (for example, university or public-sector employment, private-sector work, research, consulting, or self-employment), or belong to another eligible category such as retired academics or certain doctoral candidates. Unemployed applicants are generally not eligible. The appointment requires approval by the Human Resources Department of Université Paris 8 before teaching starts.
