About this position

KU Leuven is advertising three full-time, five-year postdoctoral research positions within the ERC Advanced Grant RECUR. The positions are organized around three research areas and are aimed at candidates with strong backgrounds in theology, religion, political theory, anthropology, and qualitative empirical research.

Area A: Systematic, Constructive, and Political Theology seeks applicants with expertise in systematic theology, constructive theology, political theology, or related theological fields. The project emphasizes critical theological reflection on coloniality, power, authority, and the political dimensions of theological concepts and imaginaries. Relevant experience may include critical, historical, feminist, liberation, or postcolonial approaches to theology, as well as theological reflection on institutions, traditions, and practices of power.

Area B: Empirical Research on Religion, Institutions, and Public Discourse is for candidates with expertise in empirical research on religion, institutions, discourse, or public debates. Suitable approaches include qualitative methods, discourse analysis, discourse network analysis, empirical theology, and related methods. The research focus is on how theological and political concepts circulate within contemporary institutions and public debates, especially in relation to coloniality, memory, authority, and structures of power.

Area C: Post-/Secularity Studies, Political Theory, and Cultural Anthropology targets scholars working in critical secularism studies, postcolonial and decolonial theory, political philosophy, anthropology, or related fields. The project explores the theological dimensions of modern political formations and the entanglements of religion, secularity, coloniality, and social imaginaries. Applicants should be open to qualitative empirical research, including Discourse Network Analysis.

This is a postdoctoral opportunity rather than a PhD or master's opening. The post does not mention a stipend amount, tuition waiver, or a deadline. Interested applicants should use the linked KU Leuven page for full application details and submit according to the instructions provided there.
