About this position

Pompeu Fabra University (Department of Communication, Barcelona) is advertising two full-time five-year postdoctoral positions linked to the ERC Consolidator project OPENLIB – Literary Reading, Public Libraries, Young People and Inclusive Democracies.

The project examines the relationships between literary reading, public libraries, young people, and inclusive democracies, drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from children’s literature studies, childhood and youth studies, media and communication, education, library research, and cultural studies.

Postdoctoral Researcher A focuses on policy, surveys, and institutional understandings of literary reading, with work in policy and discourse analysis. This profile may suit researchers interested in children’s literature, reading promotion, libraries, and cultural policy.

Postdoctoral Researcher B focuses on participatory research with children in public libraries, including children’s participation, creative and arts-based methods, recommendation practices, cultural belonging, and children’s reading experiences. Fieldwork in different European cities is expected during summer 2028.

The positions are based in Barcelona and are expected to start on 1 January 2027. The salary is €38,330.21 gross per year. Applicants must hold a PhD in a relevant social science or humanities field, have excellent written and spoken English, and be willing to live and work in Barcelona and travel as part of the project.

Applications are submitted via Interfolio. The official call, full requirements, and application links are available on the UPF website; the post directs applicants to the “bases” links and the English translation.

Deadline: 25 August 2026.
