About this position
University of Graz is advertising a University Assistant with a PhD (m/f/d) in the Graz School of Interdisciplinary Transnational Studies, based in Graz, Austria. This is a temporary 2-year full-time postdoc-level position with an annual gross salary of at least €70,200.20 (salary category B1 with PhD), starting on 2026-12-01.
The role is centered on independent research at the interface of affect and emotion research and social movement/protest research, with a regional emphasis on Turkey and South-Eastern Europe. The successful candidate will contribute to externally funded research projects, including grant applications, project management, publications, and the development of international academic networks in these fields.
In addition to research, the position includes teaching in English at the Centre for South-East European Studies, supervision of students—especially MA theses—and the design and organisation of international academic events such as workshops, conferences, and lecture series. Administrative, organisational, and committee duties are also part of the role.
Eligibility highlights include a completed doctoral/PhD degree in political science, documented expertise through publications, regional experience in Turkey and neighbouring regions, strong international publication record, and experience with ethnographic fieldwork. Applicants should also have experience applying for competitive funding, ideally from the FWF or EU schemes, excellent English and Turkish, and good German. Teaching experience and the ability to supervise MA-level dissertations are important.
Application deadline: 2026-08-16 at 23:59 (Europe/Vienna). Applications must be submitted through the university’s web-based applicant tool. Required documents include a letter of motivation, academic CV, and relevant certificates.
Contact: Mag. Tanja Bilaver.
