This postdoctoral position at the University of Graz is based in the Department of Translation Studies and focuses on research and teaching in the area of Translation, Migration, Minorities. The successful candidate will contribute to research and publication activities, knowledge dissemination, public engagement, and the development of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work on Multilingual Communication and Translation in Spaces of Crisis and Disaster. The role also includes the opportunity to write a postdoctoral thesis (habilitation) connected to the advertised research focus.
The position is designed for a scholar with a strong background in Translation Studies and/or Interpreting Studies, and it combines research, project development, and teaching. Responsibilities include developing new participatory and collaborative approaches to translation research in migration contexts, integrating inter- and transdisciplinary research with practice-oriented teaching, particularly in interpreter training, and supporting funding applications and project administration. The post holder will also co-organize workshops, symposia, and conferences, and teach independently in the Bachelor’s programme Multilingualism, translation and digital communication and the Master’s programme Translation Studies, especially in translation, multilingualism, migration, and interpreting.
Teaching and academic mentoring are central parts of the job. The appointee will supervise and support students, including BA theses and, where needed, Master’s theses, and will contribute to organizational and administrative tasks as well as departmental evaluation activities. The profile highlights expertise in Translation Studies theories, social science methods, and theoretical/methodological questions around the pedagogy, politics, and ethics of translation.
Applicants must have a doctorate/PhD in a relevant field, strong teaching experience in translation and/or interpreting studies, international experience in research and publication, experience organizing academic events, very good German and English, and proficiency in another language, preferably non-European. Strong IT skills, intercultural competence, teamwork, initiative, and resilience are also expected.
The contract is temporary for 6 years, with employment starting on 2026-10-01. The annual gross salary is at least €70,200.20 for a full-time position, with possible overpayment depending on qualifications and experience. The application deadline is 2026-08-28.
