About this position

The CECAD Cluster of Excellence for Aging Research at the University of Cologne invites applications for up to four postdoctoral positions in aging research. This opportunity is designed for outstanding early-career researchers with a strong interest in aging trajectories and interdisciplinary biomedical research.

Successful applicants will join CECAD’s internationally recognized research environment in Cologne, Germany, with access to scientific infrastructure, collaborative networks, core facilities, and workshops. The postdoc program is hosted by the CECAD Postdoc Academy for Aging Trajectories and aims to attract talented researchers from around the world while supporting scientific excellence and career development.

The appointment is for 3 years and includes coverage of bench fees up to 20,000 EUR per year. The positions are explicitly compatible with complementary external funding schemes and may serve as a platform for future independent funding applications. Mentorship is provided by two CECAD Principal Investigators, and each postdoc will be hosted by a CECAD PI with laboratory and workplace access.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a relevant life sciences field such as biology, biomedicine, genetics, molecular biology, or a related discipline. The PhD must have been awarded no more than four years before the start date. A strong scientific track record and motivation for interdisciplinary aging research are expected. Candidates must submit a research proposal addressing key questions related to aging trajectories and aligned with at least one of CECAD’s research areas; interdisciplinary projects are especially encouraged.

The application package includes a research project proposal (up to 4 pages), a summary of previous research activities and achievements (up to 1 page), a letter of motivation (up to 1 page), a CV (up to 2 pages), and a list of three preferred CECAD Principal Investigators as potential mentors. The position starts on 1 January 2027, is full-time (39.83 hours/week), and runs until 31 December 2029. The application deadline is 24 October 2026.

Applications must be submitted online through the University of Cologne job portal. For questions, applicants may contact Fabian Krohm by email. The University of Cologne also states its commitment to equal opportunities and diversity.
