stem cell-based disease modelling

Parkinson’s disease

The research focuses on how
pesticides
and other
environmental toxicants
affect
dopamine neuron
health and may contribute to Parkinson’s disease development. The PhD project is embedded in a large interdisciplinary consortium and will involve close collaboration with toxicologists, epidemiologists, clinicians, and chemical analysts.
The PhD project uses human stem cell models, including differentiation of pluripotent stem cells into neurons, astrocytes, and microglia, high-throughput screening, qRT-PCR, immunocytochemistry, confocal imaging, MEA, calcium imaging, neurotransmitter release assays, single-cell RNA sequencing, and bioinformatic analysis. The lab also works on broader disease modelling and translational stem cell research in a highly international environment.
Eligibility highlights:
for the PhD, a Master’s degree in Biology, Biomedicine, Biotechnology, Human Biology, Medicine, or a related field is required, along with prior experience in stem cells or neuroscience, strong teamwork, and fluent English.
