Angela Kent at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to join an interdisciplinary project on plant microbiomes, crop genetics, and sustainable agriculture . The position focuses on uncovering the genomic and biochemical basis of biological inhibition of nitrification and denitrification in maize , with the broader goal of understanding how plant genomes shape microbiome functions and can help improve nutrient provisioning while reducing environmentally harmful nitrogen losses. The research combines plant–microbiome research , plant breeding and genetics , microbial ecology , bioinformatics , statistical analysis , plant physiology , soil fertility , biogeochemistry , and nitrogen cycling . The team works across crop breeding, physiology, agronomy, biogeochemistry, and industry collaborators.
