Doctoral student in Fault Attacks on Post-Quantum Cryptographic Algorithms

The KTH Royal Institute of Technology invites applications for a doctoral student position in Fault Attacks on Post-Quantum Cryptographic Algorithms, funded by the Swedish Research Council. This research project addresses the critical challenge of protecting cryptographic algorithm implementations from fault attacks, where adversaries inject faults to extract sensitive information. The focus is on post-quantum cryptography (PQC), aiming to both devise new attack methods and develop robust countermeasures. The successful candidate will join the Hardware Security group at KTH, collaborating with five current PhD students and working under the supervision of Dr. Elena Dubrova and Professor Carl-Mikael Zetterling. The project will leverage advanced machine learning technologies to analyze and mitigate fault attacks, contributing to the development of new vulnerability assessment methods, countermeasures, and supporting tools for PQC security. Applicants must meet the admission requirements for postgraduate education, including a second cycle degree (master's) or equivalent, or at least 240 higher education credits (with 60 at second-cycle level). Special eligibility criteria include knowledge of post-quantum cryptographic algorithms, expertise in fault and side-channel attacks, experience with embedded systems, and practical skills in machine learning (including platforms like TensorFlow). Priority is given to candidates with coursework or thesis work in hardware security, and those with publications in high-ranked hardware security journals, conferences, or workshops. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Personal skills such as independence, collaboration, professionalism, analytical ability, and effective communication are highly valued. The position is full-time, temporary, and funded for up to four years, with monthly salary and employee benefits according to KTH's doctoral student salary agreement. The workplace offers a creative and dynamic environment, with a strong commitment to equality, diversity, and sustainability. To apply, candidates must submit a complete application through KTH's recruitment system, including certified copies of diplomas, grades, language certificates, CV, application letter, and representative publications or technical reports. Applications must be received by midnight CET on the closing date. For further information, contact Dr. Elena Dubrova at [email protected]. Join KTH and contribute to cutting-edge research in cryptographic security, advancing the transition towards a sustainable and secure digital society.
