The University of Bordeaux invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher position in the economics of coastal risk areas, based at the Bordeaux School of Economics (BxSE). The project addresses the increasing risks of coastal erosion and submersion due to climate change, which intensify pressures on land and real estate markets and exacerbate social and environmental inequalities. The research aims to improve understanding of these hazards, support risk management, and promote adaptation strategies. Key activities include modelling individual housing decisions to analyze the interaction between housing markets, insurance systems, and inequalities, as well as designing hybrid incentive schemes that combine public solidarity and private financial insurance to influence residential location choices. Under the supervision of Professor Cécile Aubert (University of Bordeaux – BxSE) and Researcher Jeanne Dachary Bernard (INRAe – UR ETTIS), the postdoctoral researcher will study how insurance and land-based devices can limit residential settlement in high-risk coastal areas, encouraging both new and current residents to relocate. The work will involve theoretical and empirical approaches, including modelling choices based on wealth, insurance options, and national solidarity mechanisms (CatNat), and analyzing the impact of these factors on the housing market. The position offers a 15-month fixed-term contract with a gross monthly salary ranging from 2750€ to 3000€, 50 days of annual leave, 75% coverage of public transport costs, remote working options, healthcare contributions, subsidised meals, leisure and cultural activities, staff parking, and a sustainable mobility package. The laboratory is located in Pessac, near Bordeaux city centre and the Atlantic coast, with easy access by public transport. Applicants must hold a PhD in Economics and possess expertise in theoretical modelling, incentive theory, decision theory under uncertainty, moral hazard, anti-selection, empirical studies, preference evaluation, choice experiments, and discrete choice simulations. Strong analytical, organizational, and writing skills are required, along with a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary research and learn new techniques. Excellent English proficiency and compliance with French working laws are mandatory. The position is in a protected scientific area, requiring authorization from the Ministry.
