PhD Assistant in Pharmaceutical Technology (Lab FW01) at Ghent University

Ghent University invites applications for a PhD Assistant position in Pharmaceutical Technology (Lab FW01), located within the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Department of Pharmaceutics. This full-time, temporary appointment is designed for candidates interested in pursuing academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, with at least 50% of the assignment dedicated to research in pharmaceutics, specifically pharmaceutical technology. The successful candidate will join a vibrant academic environment and contribute to both research and teaching. Research activities will focus on formulation and process development of oral solid dosage forms, with potential topics including continuous manufacturing, direct compression, granulation, tableting, and 3D-printing. The position also involves assisting in teaching courses such as Drug Compounding (bachelor), Pharmaceutical Technology (master), and Societal Impact of Drugs I, II, and III (bachelor). Additional responsibilities include guiding student projects and master dissertations, as well as supporting internal and external departmental services. Applicants must hold a Master's degree in Pharmaceutics or a closely related field by the start of the appointment. For degrees awarded outside the EU, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Candidates should demonstrate strong interest in academic and/or project-based research, excellent teaching and communication skills, and a willingness to further develop these skills. Prior research experience in pharmaceutical dosage form manufacturing and teaching experience or participation in relevant training or conferences are considered assets. For foreign diplomas in languages other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided. The appointment is for two years, renewable twice for two years (up to six years total) based on positive evaluations. Remuneration is according to salary scale AAP3, and staff benefits include paid leave, training opportunities, and commuting reimbursement. The position is open to all qualified candidates, in line with Ghent University's commitment to equal opportunities and diversity. Applications must be submitted online via the Ghent University e-recruitment system by 4 December 2025. Doctoral Fellow in Pharmaceutics – Ghent University

Ghent University invites applications for a full-time doctoral fellow position in the Department of Pharmaceutics, located in Belgium. The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology is a dynamic research group focused on advancing the development and manufacturing of solid dosage forms, bridging fundamental science and industrial application. The group specializes in improving drug delivery systems and manufacturing efficiency within the pharmaceutical sector. The successful PhD candidate will contribute to innovative research in areas such as continuous manufacturing, amorphous solid dispersions, and personalized medicines. Research topics include the development and optimization of continuous production processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and product quality; investigation of formulation strategies to improve solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs, with emphasis on post-processing of amorphous solid dispersions; and exploration of approaches to tailor drug products to individual patient needs, including flexible and on-demand manufacturing technologies like 3D printing. As a doctoral researcher, you will design and conduct experimental studies, analyze and interpret scientific data, contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at conferences, collaborate with academic and industrial partners, and support teaching and mentoring activities within the department. Applicants must hold (or be close to obtaining) a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field. Candidates should have a strong interest in pharmaceutical formulation and process technology, demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, scientific curiosity, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are essential. The position offers a full-time doctoral fellowship, initially for 12 months and extendable up to 48 months after a positive evaluation. The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is free of personal income tax. Ghent University staff enjoy numerous benefits, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers. Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2026. For more information or to apply, contact the project supervisors Prof. Valérie Vanhoorne ([email protected]) or Prof. Chris Vervaet ([email protected]). The direct application link is provided above.
