About this position
Ghent University invites applications for a full-time doctoral fellow position in the Department of Pharmaceutics, located in Belgium. The Laboratory of Pharmaceutical Technology is a dynamic research group focused on advancing the development and manufacturing of solid dosage forms, bridging fundamental science and industrial application. The group specializes in improving drug delivery systems and manufacturing efficiency within the pharmaceutical sector.
The successful PhD candidate will contribute to innovative research in areas such as continuous manufacturing, amorphous solid dispersions, and personalized medicines. Research topics include the development and optimization of continuous production processes to enhance efficiency, scalability, and product quality; investigation of formulation strategies to improve solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs, with emphasis on post-processing of amorphous solid dispersions; and exploration of approaches to tailor drug products to individual patient needs, including flexible and on-demand manufacturing technologies like 3D printing.
As a doctoral researcher, you will design and conduct experimental studies, analyze and interpret scientific data, contribute to publications in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at conferences, collaborate with academic and industrial partners, and support teaching and mentoring activities within the department.
Applicants must hold (or be close to obtaining) a Master’s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field. Candidates should have a strong interest in pharmaceutical formulation and process technology, demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, scientific curiosity, and be able to work independently and as part of a team. Good communication skills in English (written and spoken) are essential.
The position offers a full-time doctoral fellowship, initially for 12 months and extendable up to 48 months after a positive evaluation. The fellowship amount is 100% of the net salary of an AAP member, determined by family status and seniority, and is free of personal income tax. Ghent University staff enjoy numerous benefits, including training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave, bicycle allowance, and eco vouchers.
Applications must be submitted by April 30, 2026. For more information or to apply, contact the project supervisors Prof. Valérie Vanhoorne ([email protected]) or Prof. Chris Vervaet ([email protected]). The direct application link is provided above.
