Edward Buckler

Edward Buckler is advertising multiple postdoctoral positions at Cornell University and the Boyce Thompson Institute in the broad area of plant science and crop improvement. The positions span AI , computational biology , plant molecular biology , and evolutionary & population genetics , with the goal of mining knowledge from diverse plants and applying it to breeding maize and cassava , and improving crop nitrogen efficiency . This is a research-focused postdoctoral opportunity for candidates with relevant training in biology, genetics, computational methods, or related fields. The post does not mention a deadline, stipend, or funding package, but it does request a cover letter and CV . To apply, email your materials to Sara Miller at [email protected] .

Edward Buckler is recruiting a PhD student for Cornell University 's Plant Breeding and Genetics program, with a planned start in Fall 2027 . The project focuses on maize and its relatives, asking why they perform so poorly in the cold and how this limitation can be overcome. The research is highly interdisciplinary and combines comparative genomics across grasses and flowering plants, AI models of sequence and function , and field and greenhouse phenotyping . This opportunity is especially suited to applicants who want to work across all three areas: plant genetics, computational/AI approaches, and experimental phenotyping. The post notes that the position is limited to US citizens because of funding requirements. The application deadline is December 1 . Interested candidates should review the group’s work via the provided link and contact the recruiter for next steps.
