Exciting opportunity at Inria Rennes for candidates interested in Extended Reality (XR) , Haptics , and Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) . The Seamless research team is recruiting two PhD students and one PostDoc as part of the EU Horizon Europe project OmenXR . PhD 1: Multimodal Reconstruction and Inference for XR Collaboration This project focuses on real-time capture of multimodal data from physical environments, scene understanding, object detection, tactile characteristics, and the use of foundation models to improve multimodal representations for XR collaboration. PhD 2: Haptic and Tactile Rendering for Teleoperation This project covers haptic interfaces, spatialized tactile rendering, wearable actuators (vibrotactile, force-feedback, skin-stretch), cross-modal rendering, sensory fidelity, and user cognitive load, with validation through user studies and quantitative metrics. PostDoc: XR/Haptics/HCI Expert The postdoc will contribute expertise in multimodal reconstruction or haptic/tactile rendering and help co-supervise the PhD students.
