Typhi genomes already sequenced from isolates collected worldwide between 1950 and 1980 . Each isolate also has its original Vi phage type , creating a rare opportunity to connect whole-genome sequencing with decades of historical global surveillance data. The research goal is to reconstruct the lost diversity of S. Typhi and translate historical phage-typing records into a modern genomic framework. This should provide new insights into the evolution and global spread of an important human pathogen.
