About this position
Postdoctoral position in bacterial genomics and evolutionary biology at Institut Pasteur, Paris, France.
The project, led by François-Xavier Weill, focuses on Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi and aims to reconstruct the twentieth-century global evolution of this pathogen using a unique historical genomic resource. More than 500 historical isolates collected worldwide between 1950 and 1980 have already been whole-genome sequenced, and each isolate has an original Vi phage-type designation. The successful candidate will integrate these genomes with historical phage-typing surveys to build a modern genomic framework for interpreting decades of epidemiological observations.
This opportunity is especially relevant for researchers interested in bacterial genomics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, phylogenetics, population genomics, comparative genomics, and genomic epidemiology. The work will address questions about the pre-antimicrobial-resistant population structure of S. Typhi, the genomic basis of classical Vi phage types, and the fate of historical lineages over time.
Eligibility highlights: a PhD or equivalent in microbial genomics, evolutionary biology, bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field; demonstrated bacterial whole-genome analysis experience; expertise in phylogenetics and/or population genomics; and proficiency with Linux, Python and/or R. Fluent English and strong communication skills are required. Experience with bacterial pathogens, microbial evolution, GWAS, or comparative genomics is considered an asset.
Funding and contract: this is a full-time temporary postdoctoral appointment for 2-3 years. No stipend amount is stated. The position is not funded through an EU Research Framework Programme.
How to apply: email a cover letter, CV with publication list, and contact details for two or three referees to [email protected]. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
Location: Institut Pasteur, Paris, France.
