This postdoctoral project addresses a central question in global change biology:
how and why does thermal sensitivity vary across the life cycle, and what are the consequences for animal populations under climate change?
The research focuses on climate change, heatwaves, and vulnerability across life stages, especially in fish, while allowing comparative work on broader taxa such as invertebrates. The project combines empirical research with evidence synthesis, comparative analyses, statistical modelling, and potentially environmental or climate modelling.
The position is described as a
fully funded 2-year postdoc

. The employment is 100% of full time, with possible teaching and departmental duties up to 20%. The postdoc will be primarily supervised by
Patrice Pottier
and co-supervised by
Prof. Fredrik Jutfelt
. The role includes regular supervision, mentoring, career development support, and opportunities to shape the group’s collaborative culture. The successful candidate may also contribute to the supervision of MSc and PhD students.
Research activities may involve laboratory experiments, field sampling, environmental monitoring, and research visits in Sweden or abroad. The postdoc is expected to contribute to collaborations through the
Thermal Ecology Alliance
, including the management of globally distributed experiments. Skills development may include experimental design, animal research, field ecology, data analysis in R, reproducible workflows, scientific writing, communication, leadership, and project management.
Eligibility and requirements:
applicants must hold a doctoral degree in ecology, evolutionary biology, quantitative biology, or a related field, and should normally have completed the degree within the last three years unless special grounds apply. Strong English communication skills, a clear motivation for global change biology, independence, curiosity, organisational ability, advanced statistical and coding skills, collaborative skills, and a commitment to open science are required. Desirable experience includes thermal ecology, meta-analysis, comparative methods, animal experimentation, field ecology, environmental monitoring, and publishing in scientific journals.
