PhD Position in Reinforcement of 3D Printed Concrete

The Technical University of Munich is advertising a Doctoral (PhD) candidate position in reinforcement of 3D printed concrete within the professorship Digital Structures with Mineral Materials . The project is part of DFG-funded research and focuses on establishing and understanding continuous fiber reinforcement and helical bar reinforcement for additively manufactured concrete. The research combines civil engineering , structural engineering , concrete engineering , materials science , robotics , and numerical/mechanical modeling . Main tasks include developing and integrating robotic equipment, studying matrix-reinforcement interactions in detail, and building structural engineering models to describe behavior and failure limits. The professorship operates an advanced extrusion 3D concrete printing facility and offers access to strong research resources. Applicants should have an excellent M.Sc. in Civil/Structural Engineering or a similar field, a strong background in structural concrete engineering, and ideally experience with experimental research, robot programming, mechanical/robotic equipment development, or numerical modeling. Excellent English is required; German is preferred. The position is a 100% academic staff role , initially limited to 3 years , with salary according to E13 TV-L . The university also notes support for women applicants and accommodations for childcare responsibilities and disabled applicants. Apply by email to Freek Bos with a motivation letter and CV.
