Jiayin Yuan

Stockholm University is offering a fully-funded PhD position in materials chemistry, focusing on climate technology and BECCS (Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage). The successful candidate will join Professor Niklas Hedin's team and the SSF-funded ACCELERATE project, working on developing new liquids and adsorbents for safer and more cost-effective CO2 capture from biomass combustion flue gases. The research aims to create innovative materials, such as aminated nanoparticles or colloids, that can bind CO2 efficiently and reduce energy requirements for its release, thereby improving sustainability and safety compared to current technologies. The project is integrated into a larger competence center dedicated to accelerating the transition and scaling of bioCO2 utilization. Applicants should have a master's degree or equivalent in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or physics, with strong analytical, creative, and teamwork skills, and proficiency in English. The position is fully funded for four years, with a fixed salary and no tuition fees. The application deadline is November 3, 2025. Candidates should apply through Stockholm University's recruitment system, submitting all required documents. The team includes supervisors Niklas Hedin, Jiayin Yuan, Belén Martín-Matute, and Christophe Duwig, offering a multidisciplinary and collaborative research environment.

Stockholm University is offering a fully funded PhD position in Materials Chemistry, focusing on the development of advanced materials and scrubbing fluids for CO2 capture. The research aims to design new materials, such as aminated nanoparticles or colloids, to improve energy efficiency and reduce harmful emissions in carbon dioxide capture processes. The project is part of the SSF-funded ACCELERATE competence center, which supports the transition and upscaling of bioCO2 use. The Department of Chemistry at Stockholm University is one of the largest in Sweden, with extensive research infrastructure and a broad range of chemistry disciplines. Applicants must hold a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics, and have completed independent advanced-level work. Strong analytical skills, initiative, collaboration ability, and English proficiency are required. The position offers a fixed salary for four years, full-time employment, and integration into a dynamic research environment. The application deadline is November 3, 2025. Interested candidates should apply through the university's recruitment system, submitting a personal letter, CV, and all required documents. Stockholm University is advertising a PhD student position in Materials Chemistry with a specialization in cost-effective separation of carbon dioxide . The project is centered on developing new materials and scrubbing fluids for CO2 capture using aminated nanoparticles, polymers, or colloids . The research hypothesis is that these materials can bind CO2 in a way that lowers the heating demand in later process steps, while also reducing the risk of harmful degradation products during cyclic use. The tentative focus is on thermochemistry , phase diagrams , and mechanistic studies , with room to adapt the project to the successful candidate’s interests and background. The position is hosted by the Department of Chemistry at Stockholm University and is funded by the Swedish Research Council . The project is carried out in close collaboration with Professor Jiayin Yuan at Stockholm University and Professor Christophe Duwig at KTH Royal Institute of Technology. Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a second-cycle degree or equivalent, and for the specific materials chemistry entry route, a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or physics plus an independent project of at least 30 advanced-level credits. Strong English skills, relevant research knowledge, initiative, independence, and teamwork ability are important. Funding and employment: this is a fixed-term doctoral employment for up to four years full-time, with possible duties in teaching, research, and administration up to 20%. Application deadline: 9 August 2026. Apply via Stockholm University’s recruitment system and submit a personal letter, CV, and all requested attachments.

Stockholm University is advertising a PhD position in Materials Chemistry focused on cost-effective carbon dioxide separation . The project explores new materials and scrubbing liquids for CO2 capture using aminated nanoparticles, polymers, or colloids .
