The project aims to advance the understanding and practical management of AI vulnerabilities, focusing on security and safety as core ethical requirements. The researcher will engage in both theoretical and practical work: analyzing the discourse around AI vulnerabilities to clarify concepts and monitoring real-world AI incidents to assess the impact of security and safety issues. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of an open-source platform for identifying and addressing safety and security concerns in AI systems. The position offers the support of a dynamic team of over 60 experts, access to wellness benefits (ePassi), career development opportunities, and a flexible, inclusive work environment. The University of Oulu holds the HR Excellence in Research label, ensuring high standards for researcher working conditions. The city of Oulu provides a high quality of life, safety, and excellent educational and social infrastructure, making it an attractive destination for international researchers. Eligibility requires a completed Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field before the start date, fluency in English, strong communication skills, and prior experience with AI. Candidates should be willing to tackle interdisciplinary research problems and meet the requirements of the University of Oulu Graduate School (UniOGS). Practical expertise in AI, interdisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge of ethics and philosophy are valued. The position is full-time and fixed-term for three years, with a starting gross salary of approximately 2600-3200 € per month (before taxes), determined by the Finnish university demand level chart and personal performance. A 6-month trial period applies. The application deadline is 15 January 2026. Applicants should submit a cover letter, CV (per Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity guidelines), certificates/diplomas, and contact details for two referees via the university's recruitment system.
