PhD opportunity in Machine Learning in Medicine at the University of Bern , Switzerland, in the Machine Learning in Medicine Lab led by Prof. Dr. Lisa Koch . The project focuses on trustworthy machine learning for healthcare and aims to develop methods for multimodal health data to characterise and model disease progression . Research directions include multimodal representation learning across imaging, time series, and tabular data; disease progression modelling from cross-sectional and sparse longitudinal data; causal machine learning to disentangle progression from treatment effects; learning with missing modalities and irregularly sampled signals; and fairness and bias in multimodal models. The lab works on applications in biomedical imaging , wearable sensor data , and clinical measurements, and collaborates closely with clinicians at Inselspital, Bern University Hospital . The team describes itself as small, collaborative, and well connected within Switzerland and internationally. Eligibility highlights: a Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as computer science, machine learning, statistics, biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or similar; strong foundations in machine learning; practical Python experience implementing and evaluating ML models; strong analytical skills; and interest in healthcare research. Experience with biomedical data is a plus. Funding and terms: full-time employment at 100% for 3 years with an option to extend by 1 year.
