PhD Position in Synthetic Organic and Organometallic Chemistry at the University of Amsterdam
PhD position open
in
Synthetic Organic & Organometallic Chemistry
at the
University of Amsterdam
, within the
Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS)
and the
Fernández Ibáñez Research Group
.
This newly funded
NWO PhD project
focuses on developing innovative
palladium-catalysed C–H activation
and
cascade reactions
for the rapid construction of complex molecular ring systems. The research sits at the interface of
synthetic organic chemistry
,
organometallic catalysis
,
ligand design
, and
reaction mechanisms
, with applications in
pharmaceutical
and
fine chemical synthesis
.
The PhD researcher will develop novel Pd-catalysed transformations, design and synthesize ligands and catalysts, conduct mechanistic investigations, and analyze reactions using
NMR
,
GC-MS
, and
HPLC
. The role also includes publishing in scientific journals and presenting at international conferences.
Eligibility highlights:
a Master's degree in Chemistry (or near completion), strong background in organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, or catalysis, hands-on synthetic laboratory experience, strong English communication skills, and interest in reaction mechanism and method development. Familiarity with modern analytical techniques is desirable.
Funding and conditions:
4-year PhD appointment; gross monthly salary €3,059–€3,881 (Scale P), excluding holiday and year-end allowances; 232 holiday hours per year; training, conferences, professional development, hybrid working possibilities, and pension contributions.
Deadline:
1 August 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is recommended.
