Postdoctoral Researcher in Dynamic Organ-on-Chip Systems for In Vitro Bone Tissue Modeling
Radboud University Medical Center (Radboudumc) in Nijmegen is recruiting a
Postdoctoral Researcher
for the project
Dynamic Organ-on-Chip Systems for In Vitro Bone Tissue Modeling
.
This position sits in the
Diba Lab
within the
Regenerative Biomaterials
unit of the Department of Dentistry, and focuses on the intersection of
biomedical engineering
,
microfluidics
,
organ-on-chip systems
,
biomaterials
,
hydrogels
,
stem cell differentiation
, and
bone tissue engineering
. The project aims to build human in vitro bone tissue models that can reproduce dynamic physical cues during culture and be used to study bone formation and screen new therapies.
You will adapt and operate a patent-pending organ-on-chip platform for long-term 3D cell culture, integrate responsive biomaterials, differentiate stem cells into osteogenic cells, and characterize cellular and tissue responses using confocal microscopy, gene expression analysis, and histology. The role also includes validating the models with established bone therapeutics, publishing results, presenting at conferences, co-supervising students, and contributing to lab organization and industrial collaboration.
Eligibility highlights:
a PhD in biomedical engineering, (bio)mechanical or chemical engineering, applied physics, materials science, (bio)chemistry, cell biology, or a related field; strong expertise in at least one of microfluidics/organ-on-chip, 3D cell culture/cell mechanobiology, or hydrogel design/characterization; first-author publications; excellent English; and ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team. Candidates nearing PhD completion may apply if the thesis will be approved for defense by the start date. A Certificate of Conduct (VOG) is required.
Funding and terms:
fixed-term employment at salary scale 15, €3,724–€5,867, initially for one year with the prospect of extension. The package includes holiday allowance, end-of-year bonus, travel reimbursement, public transport reimbursement, and home-working compensation.
Application:
apply via the vacancy page and include two references in your CV. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, so early submission is encouraged. Intended start date: 1 January 2027.
