PhD in fast multi-scale electromagnetic modeling for RF systems

PhD opportunity at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Computational Electromagnetics research group (EMPMC lab), embedded within the broader Electromagnetics group. The project focuses on developing fast multi-scale electromagnetic modeling techniques for RF systems , with direct relevance to next-generation antenna and RF applications such as MRI , automotive radar , and 5G/6G communications . You will work on extending the in-house Linear Embedding of Green’s Operators domain decomposition method so it can support more realistic design studies for complex antenna and RF systems. The research aims include introducing multi-scale and hierarchical modeling strategies, expanding the range of modelable material properties , and validating the methods using actual measurement data. The project combines mathematical modeling, numerical method development, coding, testing, numerical simulation, and possibly measurements. Programming will be carried out in a mixed environment, using high-level tools such as Python and lower-level languages such as Fortran and C++ . The position sits in a strongly application-oriented department with close ties to high-tech industry and an international research environment. Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering , Applied Physics , or Applied Mathematics ; prior experience in computational modeling of physical phenomena; strong research motivation; teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration skills; interest in industry collaboration; and fluent English at C1 level. Funding and conditions: full-time PhD employment for four years , with an intermediate assessment after nine months. Salary is in scale P (gross monthly base salary from €3,204 to €4,051 ), plus an 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% year-end bonus . Additional benefits include pension contributions, training support, commuting/work-from-home/internet allowance, and access to TU/e facilities and support services. Application deadline: 2026-09-19 . Apply online with a cover letter, CV including publications, and the contact details of three references. Applications by email or post will not be processed.
