Post-Doctoral Position in Genomics and Bioinformatics (AgroBioSciences Program)
The AgroBioSciences Program (AgBS) at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) in Morocco is seeking a post-doctoral fellow specializing in Genomics and Bioinformatics. UM6P is a leading institution in Africa, dedicated to research and innovation, and aims to position itself among world-renowned universities. The university is located in Benguerir, at the heart of the Green City, and is committed to economic and human development, with research and innovation at the forefront of African progress.
This postdoctoral position focuses on generating and analyzing genomic data related to rhizobia in Morocco and Africa, including their characterization, distribution, diversity, and transmission mechanisms between rhizobia and host plants. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research team and contribute to the identification of isolated strains using 16s RNA and ITS, conduct whole-genome sequencing experiments, perform taxonomy characterization and analysis, and carry out bioinformatics analyses on the generated data. The role also involves co-supervising master and doctoral students and publishing research findings in high-impact journals.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field. Required qualifications include expertise in bioinformatics pipelines (such as Illumina, MiseQ, Sanger), taxonomy analysis, diversity, genotyping, and hands-on experience with 16s RNA and ITS sequencing data analysis. A strong publication record in the relevant field, excellent spoken and written English, communication and interpersonal skills, and high motivation for scientific work are essential.
To apply, candidates should prepare a cover letter indicating the position and main research interests, a detailed CV, a brief research statement, and contact information for two references. Applications can be submitted via the provided application link. For further inquiries, Professor Martin Jemo can be contacted at [email protected].
This opportunity offers a chance to contribute to cutting-edge research in genomics and bioinformatics within a dynamic African institution, with a focus on agricultural and biological sciences. The position is based at UM6P's AgroBioSciences Program in Benguerir, Morocco.
