PhD position in Macroeconomics at the University of Hohenheim in the Institute of Economics, embedded in a DFG-funded project titled “Stabilization, Risk Sharing, and Debt Sustainability” . The project uses a quantitative macroeconomic modelling framework to study how fiscal-federal transfer systems and debt limits shape the strategic behaviour of regional governments in a monetary union. Research topics include regional fiscal policy, economic stabilisation, cross-regional risk sharing, and the long-run sustainability of public debt. The successful candidate will conduct original research leading to a doctoral dissertation, present findings at departmental seminars and international conferences, and contribute to communication activities such as policy briefs, a project website, and public debate outreach. Eligibility highlights: an excellent Master’s degree in Economics or a related field (students close to completion may also apply), strong background in macroeconomics and/or numerical methods , strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g. MATLAB, Python, Dynare ), and very good written and spoken German and English . Interest in fiscal federalism, monetary unions, and quantitative macroeconomic modelling is expected. Funding and conditions: E13 TV-L , 75% scope, fixed-term until 30.11.2029 .
