PhD Scholarship Opportunity (2026 Intake) in goal-oriented semantic communications at The Australian National University , in collaboration with King’s College London . This is a fully funded PhD position starting from July 2026 . The project sits at the intersection of AI , communications , and signal processing , with a strong focus on goal-oriented and semantic communications for 6G and beyond . Research topics include AI-empowered communication strategies and algorithms, algorithm implementation and evaluation, real-world applicability, and publishing in leading IEEE journals and conferences. The opportunity is well suited to students interested in next-generation communication networks and practical deployment-oriented research. Eligible applicants are full-time PhD candidates (domestic and international welcome) with a background in telecommunications , electrical/electronic engineering , computing , or a related field. The post asks for a First-Class Honours Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree (or equivalent) , plus strong research potential, solid fundamentals in communications/signal processing and machine learning, good programming skills, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
