Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemical Synthesis and Methanogenesis (Chemical Biology)

A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Excellence Cluster 'Microbes for Climate' (M4C) at Philipps-Universität Marburg, Germany. The project, in collaboration with Jan Schuller, focuses on expanding the synthetic toolbox to unlock methanogenesis. Specifically, Project 5 involves the chemical synthesis of key cofactors such as tetrahydromethanopterin (H4MPT) and the development of affinity-based probes to enable mechanistic studies of methanogenesis at molecular resolution. The ideal candidate will have a doctoral degree in Organic Chemistry or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in multi-step synthesis, purification, and characterization of complex molecules. A strong background in designing synthetic routes is essential. Additional experience in chemical biology, including biological techniques such as enzymatic assays, pull-down assays, and protein expression, is highly desirable. This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic research environment at Philipps-Universität Marburg, contributing to cutting-edge research at the interface of chemistry and biology, with relevance to climate science. The project is part of the 'Microbes for Climate' cluster, which aims to understand and harness microbial processes for climate solutions. Applicants should apply online at the provided link, selecting 'Project 5', and ensure their application materials clearly demonstrate their relevant expertise. The deadline for applications is November 16, 2025.
