Entry-Level PhD Researcher in Environmental Engineering for SmarTuBending
PhD Researcher position at the University of Porto (FEUP)
The Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) is recruiting one Entry-Level PhD Researcher for the SmarTuBending project, a research and innovation initiative focused on smart, efficient, and connected bending machines. The position is based at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Porto, Portugal.
Research focus
The successful candidate will strengthen the environmental integration and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) components of the iMOB digital platform. The work aims to operationalise environmental impact and carbon footprint quantification, including Scope 3 emissions, and convert these results into digital decision-support indicators for industrial use. The project connects environmental engineering with digital platform development, ecodesign, sustainability assessment, and industrial decision support.
Methods and tools
The position involves recognized LCA methodologies (ISO 14040/44), carbon footprint standards (GHG Protocol/ISO 14067), and specialist software such as SimaPro. The research output may also support Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). The researcher will contribute to project dissemination, public presentations, management tasks, and may occasionally assist in teaching and training activities.
