, within the Department of Public Administration and Sociology (ESSB). The project examines how emerging donors such as China, India, Brazil, South Africa, and Gulf states are reshaping
global development finance
and
global governance
, with a particular focus on how different donor models affect
gender equality
and other transnational policy outcomes.
The PhD candidate will join an interdisciplinary research environment and contribute to a comparative quantitative project that builds a novel cross-donor dataset using sources such as OECD, GODAD, and related data. The research agenda includes donor practices, institutional models, development cooperation, policy preferences, and the relationship between development finance and issues such as climate change and human rights.
Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in political science, international relations, development studies, economics, or a related field. Strong quantitative skills are important, and experience with R, Stata, or Python is desirable. Excellent English, the ability to work independently and in a team, and a strong interest in gender equality or related global policy issues are highlighted as key requirements.
The position is a paid PhD employment at EUR, with a gross monthly salary of €3,059 to €3,881. The contract starts on 1 September 2026, initially for one year and extendable by three years if suitability is proven. The deadline for applications is 24 May 2026.
