North-West University’s Unit for Environmental Sciences and Management (UESM) is inviting applications for a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
in
Water Quality Modelling
, based in Potchefstroom.
The project focuses on
water quality
,
hydrology
,
hydrogeology
,
environmental science
,
water resources management
,
geoinformatics
,
GIS
, and related research areas. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of
Prof. Seifu Kebede Gurmessa
and contribute to water-quality data analysis, GIS-based spatial analysis, national water resources accounting, and method development.
Key responsibilities include developing methods to integrate water quality into the national water resources accounting framework, identifying and managing water-quality, surface-water, and groundwater datasets, selecting appropriate indicators for national-scale accounting, producing GIS-based analyses and mapping outputs, quantifying impacts on water availability, and contributing to technical reports, maps, presentations, and methodological guidance documents.
Eligibility highlights include a
PhD
in one of the listed fields or a related discipline, demonstrated experience in water-quality data analysis, strong hands-on GIS and spatial analysis skills, the ability to work with large environmental datasets, and the ability to develop methods rather than only apply existing tools.
The appointment is for
1 year
and the post offers a
stipend of R243 478 per annum
(tax inclusive). The post is funded through
WRC-UKZN funding
