Fully Funded PhD Scholarship in Deliberative Democracy at University of Canberra

Fully funded PhD scholarship at the University of Canberra for research in deliberative democracy , participatory democracy , and related areas such as democratic innovations , democratic resilience , deliberative systems , AI and digital politics , environmental politics , inclusion, identity, and gender. The opportunity is hosted by the Centre for Deliberative Democracy , a world-leading research centre in Australia. The successful candidate will join a supportive doctoral research environment and be matched with an appropriate supervisory team based on the proposed project. Potential primary supervisors include Associate Professor Hans Asenbaum , Professor Simon Niemeyer , Dr Adele Webb , and Professor Selen Ercan . This is a PhD opening commencing in February 2027 and based in Canberra, Australia . The scholarship runs for 3.5 years and provides a stipend of AUD 40,000 per annum , indexed annually. International scholarship recipients also receive a relocation allowance . Eligibility is open to both domestic and international applicants who can study in Australia on an international student visa. Applicants must meet University of Canberra PhD admission requirements and hold either a Bachelor degree with First or Upper Second Class Honours, a Master degree with a substantial research component, or an equivalent qualification recognised by the university. The project may be theoretical or empirical and may use qualitative, quantitative, mixed-methods, interdisciplinary, or participatory approaches.
