The Electrified WAstewater Treatment and Element Recovery (E-WATER) Lab at Michigan State University’s Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is offering 1–2 fully funded PhD positions starting Fall 2026. The lab focuses on developing advanced electrochemical systems for removing pollutants from municipal, industrial, and agricultural wastewaters, recovering value-added products, and advancing sustainable water and wastewater treatment. Students will engage in both laboratory and field-based research, collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, and work on projects funded by major agencies such as DOE NAWI, DOD SERDP, US EPA, and NASEM. The program provides opportunities to present at academic and professional conferences and gain expertise at the intersection of applied electrochemistry, water treatment, and resource recovery. Applicants should have a bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering field with a strong chemistry background, experience in wastewater treatment processes, and skills in water quality analysis and electrochemical techniques. Strong communication and teamwork skills are required, and research publication experience is preferred.
