DPhil Studentship in Organic Chemistry: Redox Activation Methods for Catalysis in Organic Synthesis

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Oxford invites applications for a DPhil studentship in synthetic organic chemistry, commencing October 2026. The successful candidate will join the Donohoe group, led by Professor Tim Donohoe, and will focus on redox activation methods for catalysis in organic synthesis. The research aims to develop catalytic approaches for activating organic molecules via oxidation or reduction, with a particular emphasis on stereoselective preparation of complex molecules, asymmetric synthesis, total synthesis, and mechanistic studies. The Donohoe group is renowned for its innovative work in catalytic organic chemistry, and recent publications can be found at the group website . The project will be based in the Chemistry Research Laboratory at Oxford, offering access to state-of-the-art facilities and a vibrant research environment. This studentship covers course fees at the Home rate and provides a stipend of at least £21,805 per annum for three years, funded at the UK Research Council rate. Applicants must meet UKRI eligibility criteria, which can be reviewed here . Applicants should hold a first-class or strong upper second-class undergraduate degree in Chemistry or a related subject. A strong commitment to research and the ability to independently acquire new skills are essential. The Donohoe group and the Department of Chemistry are committed to promoting diversity, equality, and inclusion, holding the Athena SWAN Silver Award. There is no formal deadline; applications are processed until a suitable candidate is found. Interested candidates are encouraged to enquire and apply as soon as possible. Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Tim Donohoe at [email protected] . Formal applications should be submitted via the Oxford online application system, quoting TD/Chem/2026 under ‘Departmental Studentship Applications’. For further information on the application process, contact [email protected] . This opportunity is ideal for motivated students seeking to advance their expertise in organic chemistry and catalysis within a world-leading research group at the University of Oxford.
