PhD Position in Soccer Analytics
The Algorithms and Visualization Group in the Social Networks Lab at ETH Zürich is offering a PhD position focused on soccer analytics. The group is at the forefront of developing network data science methods and applying them to sports analytics, with a particular emphasis on association football (soccer). The successful candidate will work on defining and extracting novel types of relations from high-quality event and tracking data, analyzing and interpreting spatio-temporal networks, and identifying new descriptors relevant for match analysis and tactical decision-making. Collaboration with professionals in the field will be a key aspect of the research. The position is ideal for candidates with a solid background in computer science, mathematics, or statistics, and a strong interest in empirical analysis and interpretation. Specializations such as network analysis, computational geometry, or time-series analysis are particularly relevant, but candidates with a sports background and computational skills are also encouraged to apply.
