KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Postdoc in Sub Terahertz Band LEO Satellite Wireless Networks

This postdoctoral position is offered by the Communication Systems (COS) Division at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, under the leadership of Prof. Emil Björnson, as part of the international 6GSTAR research project. The project is a collaboration between KTH, Northeastern University (USA), and the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), and is closely linked with major European research initiatives such as DICE-6G, SMART-6GSAT, and SweWIN. The successful candidate will join the TERANET@KTH research lab and work with a diverse team of academic and industrial partners, including Ericsson. The research focus is on the design and development of next-generation Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems that utilize the sub-terahertz (100 GHz – 300 GHz) spectrum for extremely high-rate mobile wireless links. The postdoc will have opportunities for international collaboration, including research visits to partner labs in Europe, the USA, and Singapore. The role involves coordinating research activities within the 6GSTAR project, leading international collaborations, publishing in top-tier journals and conferences, and mentoring MSc and PhD students. The position is for up to two years, full-time, and offers a monthly salary. Applicants must have a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Communications Engineering, or a closely related field, with a strong research record in wireless communications, networking, or optimization. Preferred candidates will have obtained their PhD within the last three years, possess strong English communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Experience in industry R&D and mentoring students is a plus. Expertise in areas such as LEO satellite communications, beamforming, MIMO algorithms, millimeter wave and terahertz communications, channel modeling, and network coexistence is highly valued. KTH is committed to equality, diversity, and providing a supportive environment for professional growth. The application deadline is November 26, 2025. KTH Royal Institute of Technology

Doctoral student in mobile wireless sub-THz MIMO communication for 7G

Doctoral student in mobile wireless sub-THz MIMO communication for 7G at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. This PhD project sits at the frontier of next-generation wireless communications, focusing on theory formation for mobile sub-terahertz (sub-THz) and terahertz (THz) systems for 6G, 7G and beyond. The work is centered on the physical layer and MAC layer, with room to adapt research directions to the applicant’s interests. Potential research areas include physically large antenna arrays, near-field THz communications, movable antennas, intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), joint THz communication and wireless sensing (ISAC), massive and distributed MIMO at sub-THz frequencies, and THz communications for satellite networks. The project draws on probability theory, communication theory, electromagnetics, optimization, and machine learning. The position is explicitly described as fully funded , with salary according to KTH’s doctoral student salary agreement. The results are expected to lead to top-level journal publications and support a future research career in academia or industry. Supervision is provided by Assistant Professor Vitaly Petrov and Professor Emil Björnsson . The vacancy is for a doctoral degree, and only applicants who meet the postgraduate admission requirements may be employed as doctoral students at KTH. Eligibility highlights include a second-cycle degree such as a master’s degree, or at least 240 higher education credits with 60 second-cycle credits, or equivalent knowledge. English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is mandatory. Selection also emphasizes independence, teamwork, professionalism, analytical ability, and effective English communication. Applications must be submitted through KTH’s recruitment system by the stated deadline. Required documents include diplomas and transcripts, proof of language requirements, a CV, a motivation letter, and up to three representative publications or technical reports. The position is based in Stockholm, Sweden.
