Reopening of a PhD position at NIOO-KNAW in the Microbial Ecology and Terrestrial Ecology departments for a project on the biogeography of plant-associated fungi on the Galápagos islands . The project asks how fungal diversity, functions, and biogeography vary across plant species , islands , and the mainland , and whether these fungi contribute to plant establishment and resilience. The research will focus on yeasts , arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi , and fungal pathogens associated with the endemic Scalesia species. The ideal candidate is curious and collaborative, with experience or interest in combining microbial ecology and plant ecology using plant experiments , molecular techniques , and computational analyses . This is a research opening in the Netherlands, with application deadline on 2026-11-04 .
