Postdoctoral Research Scientist in Adaptive Optics, Ophthalmoscopy, and Vision Science at IISER Berhampur
The Akondi Lab at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Berhampur, India, is inviting applications for a postdoctoral position as Project Research Scientist - I (Non-Medical). The lab, part of the Department of Physical Sciences, focuses on the applications of adaptive optics technology in ophthalmoscopy, vision science, and microscopy. The advertised project involves the development of a tunable lens-integrated Shack-Hartmann wavefront aberrometer for comprehensive ocular wavefront assessment in patients with and without intraocular lenses. Key research areas include adaptive optics, wavefront sensors, biomedical optics, and deep learning-driven wavefront analysis, with a particular emphasis on applications in vision science and pseudophakia.
The position is funded by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and offers a monthly remuneration of ₹56,000 plus 10% HRA, in accordance with ICMR norms. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Physics, Optics, Applied Optics, Biomedical Optics, or a related field. Experience in the development of wavefront sensors, wavefront analysis in pseudophakia, and deep learning-driven wavefront analysis is highly desirable. The successful candidate will join a dynamic research group working at the intersection of physics, biomedical engineering, and medical science.
To apply, candidates should submit their biodata in the prescribed format along with all supporting documents as a single PDF file (less than 10 MB) to [email protected]. The email should include a brief mention of the applicant's research expertise and use the subject line specified in the official advertisement. The deadline for applications is 11:55 PM IST on Sunday, 01 March 2026. Shortlisted candidates will be notified about the evaluation cum skill test via email. For more information about the lab and the research environment, applicants are encouraged to visit the Akondi Lab's academic page and the IISER Berhampur opportunities portal.
