About this position
The Cologne Graduate School of Ageing Research (CGA) at the University of Cologne offers up to 12 fully funded PhD positions in a major international ageing research environment in Cologne, Germany.
This structured PhD programme is a joint venture of the University of Cologne Excellence Cluster CECAD, the University Hospital, and the Max Planck Institutes for Biology of Ageing and for Metabolism Research. Successful candidates will join a cutting-edge network of 49 interdisciplinary research groups working across ageing-related biomedical and molecular life sciences.
The programme starts on an individual basis between 1 July and 1 October 2027 and is conducted in English. Funding includes initial work contracts of at least three years, with salary based on the German TV-L E13 scale at 65%, or an equivalently remunerated PhD support contract from the Max Planck Society. The post also includes annual conference travel grants, dedicated supervision through thesis advisory committees, and a comprehensive package of mentoring, coaching, methods training, and soft skills development.
Applicants should hold an MSc or equivalent degree in Biology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Genetics, Medical Biology, Translational Medicine, or a related field. The school seeks highly motivated researchers with excellent academic records, a clear interest in ageing research, and very good English skills at C1 level, written and spoken.
