About this position
Karolinska Institutet is recruiting 2 postdoctoral researchers for the Romeo research group (Human Translational Genetics Group) to work on human translational fibrosis and metabolic disease. The projects aim to uncover molecular and cellular mechanisms driving fibrosis and metabolic disease using advanced 3D in vitro models, primary and immortalized human cell lines, and translational approaches connected to clinical medicine.
The research environment combines genetics, metabolism, cell biology, molecular biology, and biochemistry, with collaborations across KI, Swedish healthcare, and international research settings. The successful candidates will establish and use 3D fibrosis/metabolic disease models, perform gene silencing and overexpression experiments, and analyze fibrosis formation, fat accumulation, protein production/secretion, and mRNA expression to identify disease-driving pathways and therapeutic targets.
This is a postdoctoral scholarship position at Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The scholarship is tax free and is paid for twelve months at a time, with payment made on a six-month basis; in exceptional cases, shorter periods may be accepted. The scholarship can be granted for up to two years within a four-year period after the doctoral degree.
Eligibility highlights include a PhD (or near completion in exceptional cases) in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field; strong experience in cell culture and gene expression modulation; expertise in DNA/RNA extraction and quantification, Western blotting, real-time methods, immunoprecipitation, ELISA, immunofluorescence, and fluorescence microscopy; excellent spoken and written English; and strong independence and teamwork skills. Additional experience with organoids, histology, confocal microscopy, high-throughput screening, method development, and statistical/programming tools such as R, STATA, SPSS, or Python is advantageous.

What's required
Applicants must have a PhD or be exceptionally close to completion in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field. The postdoctoral scholarship is intended for foreign researchers who come to Sweden for postdoctoral education and is not open to people resident in Sweden or those who have completed all or part of their academic education in Sweden. Candidates should have strong hands-on experience with in vitro techniques, including cell culture and modulation of gene expression, solid molecular biology skills (DNA/RNA extraction and quantification, Western blotting, real-time methods, immunoprecipitation, ELISA), experience with immunofluorescence and fluorescence microscopy, excellent English, and strong interpersonal and teamwork skills. Additional merits include organoid models, histology, confocal microscopy, high-throughput screening, method development, and familiarity with R, STATA, SPSS, or Python.
